Draft2Digital guide for authors who want one upload for many stores
Draft2Digital is an aggregator. You upload once and it sends your book to many stores. This guide covers who it suits and what to check.
What Draft2Digital is
Draft2Digital converts your manuscript into store-ready files and distributes the ebook to a range of retailers and library services. It also offers print options. It keeps a share of the sale, and you keep the rest.
The benefit is time. One account replaces many store accounts. The cost is a share of each sale and less direct control than you would have by publishing to each store yourself.
Who it suits
- Authors who want ebooks in many stores without setting up each account
- Authors who prefer one sales report over many
- Authors who want help with formatting and file conversion
- Authors who want library distribution without extra paperwork
What to prepare before you upload
- A clean manuscript in a format the platform accepts
- A cover that meets the ebook size rules
- Metadata and a description that match your other platforms
- A decision on which stores to turn on and which to handle yourself
- Clear rights for any images and text
Things to weigh up
- The platform keeps a share of each sale, so compare it with going direct to the largest stores
- Do not send the same book to a store twice, once through D2D and once directly
- Read the current terms, because rates and store lists change
- Decide whether you want its print option or prefer KDP or IngramSpark for print

Common questions
Does Draft2Digital charge upfront fees?
It is known for taking a share of each sale rather than a setup fee. Check the current terms on its own site before you rely on that.
Should I go direct or use an aggregator?
Going direct gives you more control and may pay more per sale. An aggregator saves time. Many authors go direct to the biggest store and use an aggregator for the rest.
Can I use Draft2Digital with KDP?
Yes, for most books. Note that KDP Select asks for ebook exclusivity, which rules out other stores while you are enrolled.
