Copyright and DMCA Policy
We respect creators' rights. This page explains how to report content you believe infringes your copyright, how to respond to a report, and what happens to repeat infringers.
Book Recommendations respects intellectual-property rights and expects visitors to do the same. We respond to clear notices of alleged copyright infringement under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512) and, in the same way, under similar laws in other countries, such as the EU's notice-and-action rules.
Our own content
We write our own articles, tools and guides, or use material we are licensed or allowed to use, and we credit sources. We do not knowingly publish copied books, manuscripts or other people's work. The tools run in your browser, and we do not store the files you check with them. If you believe something on the site copies your work, please tell us.
How to report copyright infringement
If you are the copyright owner, or are authorised to act for the owner, send a written notice to our designated contact below with all of the following:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- A description of the copyrighted work you say is infringed. If several works are covered by one notice, a list of them.
- The exact web address (URL) of each page with the material you say infringes, and a description of where on the page it appears, so we can find it.
- Your name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the owner of the exclusive right allegedly infringed, or are authorised to act on the owner's behalf.
Designated contact
Send notices to: info@booksrecommendations.com with the subject line "Copyright notice". Notices that do not contain these details may not be acted on. Please do not send other types of messages to this address.
What we do when we get a valid notice
- We act quickly to remove or disable access to the material identified, and we may tell the person who posted it.
- We keep a record of notices and our response.
- We may forward your notice, including your name and contact details, to the person who posted the content or to a third party such as a hosting or ad provider. Tell us if you do not want your details shared.
Counter-notice
If you believe material was removed by mistake or misidentification, or that you have the right to post it, you may send a counter-notice to the contact above. It must include:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the material that was removed and where it appeared before removal.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed because of mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for the district where you live (or, if outside the United States, any judicial district where we may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice or their agent.
On receiving a valid counter-notice we send a copy to the person who made the original complaint. Unless they tell us within 10 to 14 business days that they have filed a court action against you, we may restore the material.
False claims
Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), a person who knowingly and materially misrepresents that material is infringing, or that it was removed by mistake, may be liable for damages, including costs and attorneys' fees. Please consider whether the use may be fair use or otherwise allowed before you send a notice.
Repeat infringers
It is our policy, in appropriate circumstances, to disable access for, or block, users who are repeat infringers, including those who post or submit material that is the subject of more than one valid notice.
Other rights: trademarks, privacy and legal removal requests
For a concern about a trademark, a person's privacy, defamation or any other legal issue with content on the site, write to us through the contact above with the page address, what the problem is, and the law or right you rely on. We review requests and act where the law requires it. Nothing here limits the rights anyone has to go to a court.
Third-party and user material
If the site allows comments, reviews or submissions, the person who posts is responsible for it and must have the right to post it (see the acceptable use policy). Ads and affiliate content are provided by third parties; to report an ad that infringes your rights, tell us the page address and we will pass it to the ad network, or use the report link on the ad itself.
