Terms of Sale and Services

The rules for anything you buy or hire from Book Recommendations: services, ebooks, downloads, templates, courses, subscriptions and physical goods.

Last updated:

These terms apply when you buy a product or order a service from Book Recommendations ("we", "us"). They add to our general terms of use, privacy policy, refund policy and delivery policy. If you place an order, you agree to all of them. If an order page or written quote has different terms, that specific document wins for that order.

1. What we may sell or provide

  • Digital products: ebooks, guides, templates, checklists, spreadsheets, tools, courses, audio, video, software, fonts, images and other downloadable or online content ("Digital Products").
  • Services: consulting, editing, formatting, design, cover and interior work, publishing set-up, marketing, writing, coaching, audits, reports and any other work we agree to do for you ("Services").
  • Physical goods: printed books and any other items we ship ("Physical Goods").
  • Memberships and subscriptions that give repeated access to any of the above.

Which of these are available at any time is shown on the site. Listing something here does not mean it is on offer in every country.

1A. Other offerings

  • Events, webinars, coaching and consulting calls: sold for the date or session booked. If you cannot attend you may reschedule once with at least 48 hours' notice, otherwise the fee is forfeited. If we cancel or move a session, we offer a new date or a refund. Recordings and materials are for your own use. We do not provide professional (legal, tax, financial) advice in them.
  • Memberships and communities: access depends on following the acceptable use policy. We may remove members who break it, without refund where the breach is serious.
  • Donations and tips: are voluntary, non-refundable (except for payment errors) and are not charitable donations or tax-deductible unless we say so in writing.
  • Contests and giveaways: are governed by their own rules, are void where prohibited, and are not sponsored by any third-party platform unless stated.
  • Licensing, white-label work and partnerships: are governed by a written agreement. Without one, nothing here gives you any right to our brand, tools or content.
  • Advertising, sponsored posts and guest posts: bought from us are governed by the advertising and sponsorship terms, not by this page.

2. Who can buy

You must be at least 18 (or the age of majority where you live) and able to enter a binding contract. If you buy for a company, you confirm you may bind that company. You must give accurate, complete order and contact details.

3. Orders and acceptance

Your order is an offer to buy. A contract exists when we confirm it by email or on screen, or when we start delivering. We may refuse or cancel any order, for example because of stock or capacity, a pricing or description error, suspected fraud, an unsupported location or a breach of these terms. If we cancel an order you paid for, we refund it in full.

4. Prices, currency and taxes

Prices are shown at checkout in the currency stated and may change at any time, but not for an order we have already accepted. Unless stated, prices exclude taxes. Sales tax, VAT, GST or similar taxes are added where we are required to charge them. Duties, customs fees, bank charges and currency-conversion fees charged by your bank or the carrier are your responsibility.

5. Payment

We accept payment through third-party payment providers and other methods shown at checkout, which may change. Payment providers process your payment under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not see or store your full card number. You confirm you are allowed to use the payment method. If a payment fails, is reversed or is disputed, we may suspend access to the Digital Product or Service, cancel the order and take reasonable steps to recover the amount. Please contact us before you open a chargeback so we can fix the problem; we may give the payment provider evidence about the order, delivery and access.

6. Subscriptions and recurring payments

If you buy a subscription or membership, you authorise us and our payment provider to charge the price, taxes and any stated renewal price at the interval shown until you cancel. The renewal price, period and cancellation steps are shown before you pay and in your confirmation email. You can cancel at any time before the next renewal using the link in your receipt or by contacting us. Cancellation stops future charges; you keep access to the end of the period you paid for. We will tell you in advance, by email, if the renewal price changes, and you may cancel before it applies. Free trials convert to paid plans only if the trial terms say so clearly.

7. Digital Products: delivery and licence

Digital Products are delivered by download link, email or online access as described in the delivery policy. When you pay in full we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Digital Product for your own personal or internal business use. Unless the product page says otherwise, you may not:

  • copy, share, resell, rent, lend, sublicense, publish or distribute it, in whole or in part, or put it on a file-sharing or marketplace site;
  • remove copyright notices, watermarks or licence information, or claim it as your own;
  • use it to train or feed a machine-learning or AI model, or to build a competing product;
  • use it for anything unlawful.

If a product comes with a commercial or extended licence, that licence is stated on the product page and applies only to what it says. We keep all intellectual-property rights in our Digital Products. Ebooks and other content may be personalised or watermarked with your order details. We may suspend your access if we reasonably believe you are breaking this licence.

8. Services

  • Scope. The Service is what is described on the service page, order or written quote. Work outside that scope is a change request, and we may charge extra for it and move dates. We will tell you before we start the extra work.
  • Your part. You give us the information, files, access, approvals and feedback we reasonably ask for, on time, and you confirm you have the rights to everything you give us. Delays on your side can move our dates and may affect the price.
  • Timelines. Dates are estimates unless we confirm in writing that they are fixed. We are not responsible for delays caused by you, by third parties such as platforms, printers and payment providers, or by events outside our control.
  • Revisions. The number of revision rounds included is stated in the quote. Further rounds are charged.
  • Acceptance. Work is accepted when you approve it or when you have not reported a material fault within 7 days after delivery. Faults reported in time are fixed at no charge.
  • Deposits and milestones. A deposit or milestone payment may be due before work starts or continues. Work may pause while a payment is overdue.
  • Cancellation. You may cancel a Service in writing. You pay for work already done and for non-refundable costs we already paid to third parties. See the refund policy.
  • Ownership. Once you have paid in full, you own the final deliverables we create specifically for you, except for third-party materials, fonts, stock items, open-source code and our pre-existing tools, templates and know-how, which we license to you for use with the deliverables. Until payment in full, we keep all rights. We may show non-confidential finished work in our portfolio unless you ask us in writing not to.
  • Confidentiality. We keep your non-public materials confidential and use them only to provide the Service, except where the law requires disclosure or the information is already public.
  • Tools. We may use software, subcontractors and AI-assisted tools to deliver a Service. We stay responsible for the work and review it before we deliver it.
  • Independent contractor. We act as an independent contractor, not as your employee, partner or agent.
  • No guaranteed results. We do not guarantee sales, rankings, reviews, royalties, approval by a platform, publication, income or any other result. Outcomes depend on your book, your market and decisions of third parties we do not control. See the disclaimer.

9. Physical Goods

Ownership of Physical Goods passes to you when we receive full payment and delivery is made to the carrier or to you, and risk of loss passes at delivery. Shipping, tracking, customs and damage claims are covered in the delivery policy.

10. Refunds and your legal rights

Refunds, returns and cancellations are covered in the refund policy. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have by law that cannot be waived, including consumer rights to goods and services that are as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose, and any right to cancel a distance contract.

11. Your content and data

You keep ownership of materials you give us. You give us a licence to use them only as needed to deliver the order, to meet legal duties and, for testimonials or reviews you choose to submit, to display them on the site. How we handle personal data is explained in the privacy policy.

12. Third-party platforms, links and products

Our products and services often involve platforms we do not control, such as Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Lulu, Barnes & Noble Press, Draft2Digital, Apple Books, Google Play Books, Kobo and ACX. Their rules, fees, approvals and account actions can change at any time. We are not responsible for a platform's decisions, and we cannot guarantee acceptance. Where we link to or recommend third-party products, some links may be affiliate links; see the affiliate disclosure.

13. Warranty disclaimer

To the extent the law allows, Digital Products, Services and Physical Goods are provided "as is" and "as available", and we give no other warranty, express or implied, including about uninterrupted or error-free operation, results, or fitness for a particular purpose, beyond what the product or service page promises and what the law requires.

14. Limit of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for lost profit, revenue, sales, data or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim connected with an order is limited to the amount you paid us for that order in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that cannot be limited by law.

15. Indemnity

To the extent the law allows, you agree to cover us for claims, loss and costs caused by materials you gave us that are unlawful or infringe someone's rights, by your breach of these terms, or by your use of a deliverable in breach of the law.

16. Events outside our control

We are not in breach if we are delayed or unable to perform because of something beyond our reasonable control, including outages of hosting, payment, email or platform providers, power or internet failures, strikes, public health measures, war, disasters and government action. If this lasts more than 30 days, either of us may cancel the affected order and we will refund anything paid for what was not delivered.

17. Sanctions, export and unsupported locations

You may not buy from us if you are located in, or are ordinarily resident in, a country or region under comprehensive sanctions that make the sale unlawful, or if you appear on a sanctions list that applies to us. We may decline or cancel orders to any location where we cannot lawfully or practically supply the order.

18. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or end your access to a product, account or Service, with a refund of the unused part where appropriate, if you breach these terms, abuse the site, make fraudulent payments, or if we must do so by law. Sections that are meant to continue after the end of the contract, such as intellectual property, liability, indemnity and disputes, do continue.

19. Disputes and governing law

Please contact us first at info@booksrecommendations.com so we can try to settle a problem informally; most are fixed this way. Mandatory consumer laws of the place where you live continue to apply.

20. Electronic communications and notices

You agree that we may send notices, receipts and order messages to the email address you give us, and that these satisfy any legal requirement that they be in writing. Keep your email address up to date and check your spam folder.

21. General

If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest remains in force. A delay in enforcing a right is not a waiver. You may not transfer your rights under an order without our written consent; we may transfer ours with the business. These terms and the documents they link to are the whole agreement for your order.

22. Changes

We may update these terms. The version in force when you place an order applies to that order. For subscriptions, we will give notice of material changes before they affect your next renewal.

23. Contact
